Liberton Community Campus

At the heart of the design are two bright atrium spaces that act as the social focus of the campus. These shared environments help pupils, families and visitors feel connected throughout their journey, creating a welcoming and highly legible building. Informal learning areas, social spaces and shared hubs encourage interaction beyond the classroom, supporting collaboration, wellbeing and community engagement. Flexible teaching environments and adaptable multi-purpose spaces allow the campus to respond to different learning styles, extracurricular activities and public events, ensuring it can evolve alongside the needs of future generations.

Designed to Passivhaus principles, the campus prioritises environmental performance, comfort and wellbeing. A carefully considered palette of buff brick and bronze cladding gives the building a warm civic character, while generous glazing, rooflights and central atria draw daylight deep into the interior. Excellent thermal performance, high air quality and durable materials help create calm, healthy and welcoming environments for learning, working and community use throughout the day.

Alongside the new high school, the campus will provide a GP practice, public library, gym, fitness facilities and dance studio, all fully accessible to the wider community. By bringing education, health and wellbeing together under one roof, Liberton Community Campus reflects a changing approach to public infrastructure, creating an inclusive and adaptable civic hub that supports everyday life while strengthening connections between people, services and place.
