Materiality plays an important role in shaping the character of the interior. Warm timber finishes, tactile materials, carefully selected furniture and a calming colour palette create spaces that feel familiar, comfortable and accessible. Natural light is maximised throughout, while varied seating arrangements and quieter corners offer residents choice, supporting both social engagement and moments of retreat. The design carefully balances the preservation of historic character with the introduction of modern amenities, creating a cohesive environment that respects the building's heritage while enhancing everyday life.
The project also included the refurbishment of a dementia-friendly suite, designed to enhance comfort, safety and wellbeing for residents and staff. Dementia-friendly products, finishes and design principles were integrated throughout to support ease of navigation and create a reassuring, welcoming environment. A key aspiration of the client team was to deliver a premium residential setting that would appeal to prospective residents and their families, combining high-quality design with practical care requirements.
By transforming underused spaces, the project promotes wellbeing, independence and meaningful social connection. The result is a contemporary care environment that supports residents not only through the care it provides, but through the quality and character of the spaces in which everyday life unfolds.
