Replacement Galashiels Academy opens!

The replacement Galashiels Academy has welcomed pupils and staff through its doors for the first time this week.

The £64m building was designed by jmarchitects for Scottish Borders Council and Hub South East and constructed by Morrison Construction.

The building was officially opened by Galashiels Academy’s head girl and boy who cut the ribbon to mark the occasion and headteacher Steven Raeburn who welcomed pupils and staff into the building. The ceremony was attended by local councillors and representatives from Scottish Borders Council, Morrison Construction, Hub South East and jmarchitects, who were represented by Director Stewart Davie.

Galashiels Academy is a new secondary school for 1000 pupils with specialist ASN facilities as well as community swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and sports facilities all included under one roof - a true community campus. Now that the school and community have moved into the new building, phase two of the project will commence which sees the demolition of the old school buildings and the redevelopment of Scott Park, provision of extensive external sports facilities and completion of parking provision.
