It is exciting to see the completion of the steel frame and building cladding progressing at pace on site for the Replacement Galashiels Academy project! It is now possible to get a real sense of how the building will sit within its beautiful parkland setting.
jmarchitects have been attending site regularly over the last few months to observe the progress of works on site and have witnessed the best and worst of the Scottish Borders weather! It is testament to the Morrison Construction team that excellent progress is being made despite the challenging, and particularly wet, winter and spring weather that they have had to contend with.
The structural frame is complete and external wall and roof cladding are well progressed, and the focus is beginning to turn to the internal fit out works. You can begin to see how the building will frame the magnificent views of town and landscape and see the dynamic community and learning spaces taking shape.
The project is being delivered by Scottish Borders Council’s development partner, Hub South East Scotland, with Morrison Construction the appointed contractor. jmarchitects are lead consultant of the design team.
The new facility is being constructed whilst the existing school and community swimming pool remain operational, avoiding significant disruption for pupils and local community, and ultimately delivering an inspiring education and community facility.
