Bright future ahead for Wigan Town Centre!
We are off to an exciting start this year with the demolition phase of the £135m Wigan Galleries redevelopment now completed!
The demolition phase of the Wigan Galleries re-development has now concluded, which will make way for the transformational mixed-use scheme that will see the complete redevelopment of Wigan Town Centre on the former Galleries Shopping Centre, Market Hall, and Market gate Shopping Centre sites to create an entirely new destination focusing on the Town’s sustainable future.
The overall masterplan totally transforms The Galleries with a reduction in retail space and a focus on leisure, with a multimedia centre including a six-screen cinema, a 10-lane bowling alley, an indoor mini golf facility and food and beverage outlets all being proposed. The scheme also includes an evening entertainment space, a 144-bed hotel, 483 residential units, a new market hall including a contemporary food hall, and indoor market, landscaped public areas for annual outdoor events and a basement car park.
The hybrid planning application for the transformation of the Wigan Galleries shopping complex was approved in November 2021. The first phase of the re-development of the site is set to start this year that will comprise of a new Market Hall, a 144-bed hotel and the basement and associated infrastructure works. This will be closely followed by the construction of the Pavilion and Multimedia Centre.
