Welcome to the team, Colin!

Please join us in welcoming our newest Architect, Colin Melia, who has joined us in our Glasgow studio! We’re delighted to have him on the team and are looking forward to the insight, expertise, and creativity he’ll bring.

We asked him a few questions to get to know him better and here’s what he told us…

Who has been most influential on your work or work style?

“Louis Kahn for his approach to material honesty, and the GKC duo of Andy MacMillan and Isi Metztein, who interpreted his work for a Scottish context.”

Did you have an 'unusual' route to where you are today?

“I finished my undergrad under the long arm of the financial crash and ended up leaving architecture for a time; I did academic research at the RCA and then taught English across Southern Europe and Latin America for several years, before eventually finding my way back to the profession.”

Biggest professional achievement

“The first project I was fully involved with from start to finish was Dundashill 4a, a housing development on the northern edge of Glasgow city centre which was completed last year.  I was chatting to a new resident recently, who told me how much they loved living there and how well they felt it all worked.  That’s actually the first time I’ve had something like that. It was big moment.”
