Vyner Street achieves Planning Approval!

jmarchitects are pleased to gain planning approval of amendments to the mixed use commercial and residential scheme at Vyner Street in Tower Hamlets, London.

Following detailed consultation with the Tower Hamlets Planning Department jma received confirmation that the six-storey scheme on the banks of the Regents Canal is approved. The London team had worked hard to amend the previously consented scheme to increase viability, ensure compliance with recently updated fire control and means of escape regulations, and to clarify the architectural intent. The building will contain 19 flats, with a mixture of 2 and 3 bedroom layouts, wheelchair accessible flats, and some affordable for rent units. The ground floor will be flexible commercial space for local creative industries.

Through the Planning amendment process, the scheme’s massing, layouts, and elevational treatment were carefully refined, elevating architectural quality while remaining aligned with the intent of the original consent. The team spent time reconsidering the materiality to ensure a robust and durable construction, revise each flat layout to ensure pragmatic, and functional spaces, with light, access to views and adequate storage. This integrated mix of living and working spaces creates a positive addition to the Regent’s Canal corridor - one that celebrates its context, supports local enterprise, and contributes to the evolving fabric of Tower Hamlets.
