jmarchitects attend Trees, Planning and Development in Scotland seminar at Stirling University

jmarchitects joined diverse group of attendees to discuss changes to National Planning Framework and launch of NPF4. Supporting protection and restoration of green areas, specifically Urban Forests discussion centred around the multiple social, economic and environmental benefits of biodiversity, trees and woodlands.

The keynote speaker Dr Brian M Evans, Professor of Urbanism and Landscape, Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow City Urbanist, highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary approach and knowledge exchange to support the successful delivery of government policies (NPF4) and recent legislation (Planning Scotland Act 2019). Diverse range of speakers including Architects, Arboriculturists, Researchers, Tree Consultants, Planners and Environmental Program Leaders discussed roles, challenges and the importance of delivering climate resilient cityscapes, reversing biodiversity loss through people and place centred local approaches.

“We aim to identify and discuss the key steps required to make a positive shift in the planning and development process aligned with emerging policy and best practice. The seminar seeks to inform and empower those working in planning and development control and those involved with delivery on site. This seminar is aimed at everyone who has the potential to impact trees and woodlands during the planning, design and development stages.”
