Completion of St Andrew’s Drive celebrated at closing out Ceremony!

Design Director, Ian Alexander was asked to say a few words for the occasion, and we were thrilled to share the event with representatives from the client the Southside Housing Association, new residents and the wider community.
The St Andrew’s Drive Phases 2 & 3 development represents a significant milestone in the southside urban renewal, offering 120 new residences for Southside Housing Association and replacing a sizable 6-storey 1960s deck access slab block. Situated at the border of the historic Pollokshields area of Glasgow, renowned for its sandstone villas and tree-lined streets, this project has made a substantial contribution to the revitalisation of the Pollockshields community.
Architecturally, the finished development presents a modern interpretation of urban living, characterised by a harmonious palette of brick tones that embeds character and coherence into the overall design. With its detail, including precast lintels and stringer courses, the architecture pays homage to the existing built environment while surrounded by mature landscaping. Fostering a sense of community and environmental responsibility, the development features diverse green spaces, natural play areas for children, and extensive tree planting, serving to enhance the well-being of the new residents and the wider community. The thoughtful urban planning of this development is evident in the creation of new streets with sustainable urban drainage and kerbside rain gardens. Moreover, the inclusion of two active electric charging stations demonstrates a commitment to sustainable living.
Mr. Feeney, a new resident to the development, is thrilled with his new home who expressed:
“Our favourite feature is the balcony. It’s great having our own private outdoor space, which we didn’t have in a traditional tenement before. Our flat was so warm over winter, which makes a huge difference to our bills, and we are already establishing a really positive community spirit.”
The St Andrew’s Drive Phases 2 & 3 development has successfully met the requirements of Housing for Varying Needs, The Glasgow Standard, Secured by Design (Gold Standard), and Glasgow City Council’s ‘Gold Hybrid’ standard for sustainability, reflecting a dedication to excellence and serving as a model for future urban developments.
Alex Cameron, who serves as the chairperson of Southside Housing Association, remarked:
“Our new homes are more than just buildings; they are a testament to sustainable living.
The project emphasises minimising carbon usage and energy consumption, featuring high levels of insulation, triple glazing, heat recovery systems, on-site bicycle parking and charging points for electric vehicles.
We are not only celebrating the completion of these new homes, but the creation of a community where people want to live. A community built from durable materials, designed to serve the local community for many years to come.”
