We are thrilled to announce that the Bothy and Tùr at Cuningar Loop; The Linen Quarter, Pilmuir Works and Wallyford Learning Campus have all been selected as finalists at the 2024 Scottish Property Awards!
The Bothy and Tùr at Cuningar Loop - Architectural Excellence Award – Public Use
The Bothy and Tùr is a multifunctional community and business space that presents a unique and inclusive way of engaging people and communities, with a close relationship to the environment and landscape around it, developing an architecture that relates to place and purpose in equal measure. The ‘Bothy’ provides a base for local groups and activities and the ‘Tùr’ – or tower – is an accessible viewing point allowing visitors to embrace the expansive views over the park and city.
Working sensitively with the landscape, The Bothy & Tùr have been designed with longevity, flexibility, and durability at their heart. The use of robust raw materials connected to the local environment aids in bedding the structures into their context, developing an architecture that relates to place and purpose in equal measure.
The Linen Quarter, Pilmuir Works - Regeneration Project of the Year
The Linen Quarter at Pilmuir Works is a new residential community created within the restored Category A-listed former Damask linen factory, previously on Historic Environment Scotland’s Buildings at Risk Register. Based in the heart of Dunfermline, this project re-invigorates an iconic part of the city.
The design challenge was to explore how the re-development of this historically important urban site, close to the city centre, could retain the identity and significant features of the site whilst allowing space for redevelopment to occur that facilitated the regeneration of the site.
Wallyford Learning Campus - Architecture Excellence Award – Public Use & Development of the Year
Wallyford Learning Campus is a community building that is truly inclusive and responds to the environmental and educational agendas. The Campus is home to Rosehill High School as well as a dedicated science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM) centre, the Wallyford Community centre and Library, a severe and complex needs school, hydrotherapy pool and specialist provision community hub for adults with complex needs.
Perfectly located at the boundary of the St Clements Wells masterplan where the old meets the new, Wallyford Learning Campus appropriately addresses its context on all fronts. It is a unique, innovative campus that is tailored to the specific needs of the community following close collaboration and consultation with East Lothian Council, whilst making a positive contribution to Wallyford and the surrounding area.
