South London Islamic Centre starts on site!

We are delighted to announce that our project for South London Islamic Centre has now started on site, beginning with demolition of the existing buildings.

Our South London Islamic Centre project is for a new building to replace an existing mosque housed within a jumble of buildings on a tight site on Mitcham Lane, a busy high street in Streatham, south London. The idea for the new building is that, as well as being a mosque, it should serve as a multipurpose building for local the Islamic community and also be a welcoming resource open to the local residents and passers-by.

The building is organised around three large spaces; the main and sisters prayer halls on the first floor and a multipurpose space on the second floor that can be used for weddings, conferences and as a second main prayer hall at peak times. These are reached from a large main entrance, which also serves as an exhibition space and contains a bookshop and café opening out onto the street to present a welcoming public face and give the building a sense of transparency. The building also has a madrasah on the third floor with a terrace overlooking Streatham Green.
