Various organizations, including ArchitectureLGBT+ and Open Plan Scotland are working to raise awareness about the intersectionality of the LGBTQIA+ experience in the architectural field. Their efforts involve organizing events such as roundtable discussions and life drawing classes. The primary focus is on establishing safe spaces, taking tangible steps to amplify queer voices within the industry, and fostering a supportive community while encouraging intergenerational discussions among LGBTQIA+ professionals.
The Architecture and Construction industry is making strides to address the challenges faced by LGBT+ individuals. According to the 2017 AJ annual LGBT+ survey, there is a growing awareness of the need for more support and recognition of gender and sexual minority employees within the profession. While there are still obstacles to overcome, the industry is moving towards creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment. By acknowledging these issues and working towards greater visibility and support, the industry is taking important steps to ensure that all employees can bring their full selves to work each day.
