Orchard House SEND Official Opening Ceremony!

jmarchitects were delighted to be invited to the official opening ceremony of the Orchard House SEND school! It was both heartwarming and emotional, receiving such wonderful feedback first hand by pupils, their parents and staff!

We are pleased to have worked alongside Kier designing and delivering this exceptional new SEND School for Manchester City Council and the people of Miles Platting.

This new school will cater to students with significant learning difficulties and will have a capacity for 150 pupils aged 11 to 19 years. The school is designed to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment, ensuring that every student's unique potential is recognized and celebrated.

The Prospere Educational Trust was chosen to run the school, and we have worked very closely over various workshops to ensure that the teaching methodologies and aspirations are met through the design of the building and its facilities provision.

The single-storey building additionally functions as a key community hub, and outside of school hours its double-height main hall space and external games areas will be available for use by a wide range of local groups and clubs.

The school has been delivered in compliance with the Manchester Low Carbon Build Standard and with extensive social, local and economic benefits achieved for local communities. Arranged over a single storey, the new purpose-built school achieved BREEAM Very Good!
