On the 5th day to Christmas, jmarchitects gave to thee… 5 Communities Thriving!

We’re proud to have completed five residential projects this year — developments that go beyond bricks and mortar to create vibrant neighbourhoods designed for modern living.

Alongside PLATFORM_ in Edinburgh, Ballindean Road, Sydney Street, and Boltworks, this year also saw the completion of Alton Road in London, which we’re delighted to highlight below.

Alton Road is a thoughtfully designed residential development shaped around the idea of linked green spaces — a landscape-led approach encouraging wellbeing, social connection, and intergenerational living. The scheme is composed of broken-up building forms separated by mature planting, ecological routes, and shared outdoor areas, creating a calm, inclusive environment for residents.

The project transforms a partially vacant 1960s specialist housing site into a series of contemporary residential pavilions arranged around a shared courtyard. The design supports continuity for existing residents while establishing a welcoming community setting. A carefully considered material palette, sensitive massing and integrated landscape strategy strengthen the character and long‑term resilience of the development.
