Montgomerie Park Primary shortlisted in the Landscape/Public Realm category for the Scottish Design Awards!

We are thrilled to share that another one of our projects, Montgomerie Park Primary, has been nominated for this year’s Scottish Design Awards! A huge thank you to landscape architects, rankinfraser, for entering this project.
For a little more on this project:
Montgomerie Park Primary School is a new non-denominational primary school for 342 pupils with a dedicated early learning and childcare facility for 47 children. The new school supports the growing Montgomerie Park masterplan and adjacent existing residential areas in Irvine.
The new primary school comprises of 12 classrooms, early learning facilities, General purpose rooms, a gymnasium incorporating flexible performance areas, dining facilities and outdoor learning spaces. The landscape design embraced the existing challenging topography to provide a variety of external learning spaces including a nature garden, production garden with poly tunnel, outdoor classroom/amphitheatre, woodland/nature learning, a bird hide overlooking the existing SUDs pond, and a 3G sports pitch.
The new school is designed to and certified against Passivhaus criteria to minimise operational energy consumption and strive to North Ayrshire Council’s ambition towards Net Zero Carbon. The new school has been designed with specific end user requirements and sustainability as key drivers and is the first Passivhaus primary school in North Ayrshire Council. Through careful planning and detailing, we have harmonised current pedagogical principles and Passivhaus technicalities.
