Official Opening Ceremony Held for Montgomerie Park Primary School

Montgomerie Park Primary School, the first Passivhaus-certified school delivered by North Ayrshire Council, was formally opened this month at a ceremony attended by Cabinet Secretary Jenny Gilruth and project partners.
The official opening ceremony for Montgomerie Park Primary School took place on 17 June 2025, with the event attended by Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills Jenny Gilruth, alongside representatives from North Ayrshire Council, hub South West Scotland, Robertson Construction, and members of the wider community. jmarchitects was represented by Nik Shala.
Designed by jmarchitects and delivered through the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP), the school is North Ayrshire Council’s first Passivhaus-certified school and a significant investment in the future of local education. The new facility accommodates 342 pupils and 47 early years children and forms a key component of the Montgomerie Park masterplan in Irvine.
With a strong focus on energy efficiency, wellbeing and inclusivity, the school features south-facing classrooms to optimise daylighting and thermal performance, as well as flexible internal learning spaces, a social stair, and early years provision. The project also includes an all-weather sports pitch and outdoor play areas that serve both the school and the wider community.
