Work is almost complete on the erection of the steel frame for the school!
Work is progressing on site at Mayfield Community Learning Campus, designed by jmarchitects and being delivered by Kier Construction for Midlothian Council, with the erection of the steel frame marking another milestone in the construction process. The Design Team conducted their final site visit of the year to see the significant progress and to enjoy a festive lunch kindly put on by our colleagues at Kier Construction.
The new £41.8m Learning Community Campus will replace Mayfield Primary School and St Lukes RC Primary School. With a focus on climate-friendliness, community and integrated landscape, the facility will provide education spaces for both primary schools, a new nursery, and ASN facility, whilst accommodating publicly accessible learning facilities such as indoor sports halls, community spaces for private hire, meeting rooms as well as outdoor pitches and recreational areas for community and school use.
The project not only envisages a new building but also an integrated landscape masterplan which seeks to knit together the urban fabric of Mayfield around this central node, with different activities and character areas activating the fringes of the site and providing access to the campus building from all sides.
The project forms part of the Scottish Futures Trust’s Learning Estate Investment Programme and is due to be completed in 2027.
