A new initiative has been launched to help build a low carbon future!

jmarchitects were delighted to participate in the collaborative workshop delivered by BE-ST Built Environment Smarter Transformation, Hub North and Glasgow School of Arts Innovation Centre to discuss transition to Net Zero and the relationship between public and private sector required to assist in the just transition.

Magdalena Blazusiak from our Edinburgh Studio attended first of the six sessions at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, RGU including informative and motivating presentations from Steven Anderson from Scottish Futures Trust discussing conditions for LEIP 3 funding and embodied carbon targets. This was followed by engaging talk from Matt Stevenson from Ecosystems Technologies summarising his journey of supporting delivery of home-grown Mass Timber Construction, MMC, design for disassembly and innovative Gen Zero schools prototype.

It was an excellent opportunity to discuss challenges, barriers, technical solutions and strategies around Low Carbon Construction and Net Zero as well as hear experiences of various consultants, contractors and Local Authorities. We reflected on the role of the design teams in supporting communities through sustainable development, importance of modelling and measuring the performance and setting tangible benchmarks supported by post occupancy evaluation.
