Our Glasgow colleagues were very impressed by the facilities and support offered at the first drop-in mental health support space in Scotland.
Colleagues from our Glasgow office visits the recently opened “Nook” facility run by Scotland Action for Mental Health (SAMH). The Nook is the first drop in facility to offer access and support for mental health without the need of an appointment or long waiting lists. The Nook is designed to be accessible, welcoming and relaxing in a non-clinical setting for those seeking support for themselves or someone else. Being located in the heart of Merchant city and open seven days a week, the Nook has already become very popular with around 2000 visitors in the first 3 months of opening!
Our team heard more about the various levels of support provided by both the compassionate staff and practitioners at SAMH as well as getting a tour through the various spaces of the Nook, which have been carefully considered by key stakeholders of SAMH in collaboration with interior designer, Anna Campbell-Jones. The idea of a home with a kitchen, living area and garden are replicated in the Nook, as well as dedicated “Snugs” for one-to-one sessions with practitioners.
We particularly liked the sustainability considerations including re-used timber flooring from a local school and the Glasgow references featured within the bespoke wall-linings, curtains, “tenement tiles” and subway inspired seats.
