jmarchitects visit Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre

We are always excited to learn from our peers within the construction industry in their ventures towards improved sustainability and ambitions of Net Zero Carbon!

Victoria and Melissa from our Glasgow office visited Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre, currently under construction, as part of a site tour organised by Women in Property Central Scotland and BE-ST (Built Environment - Smarter Transformation).

The tour began with introductions and presentations from BE-ST undertaking the client role, Clark Contracts as the main contractor followed by John Gilbert Architects. We heard about the various project aspirations, challenges and decisions taken so far during the design and construction as well as future phasing. Following presentations, we had a tour of the building to see progress and continued engaging discussions.

The project entails an ambitious non-domestic deep retrofit of an existing industrial building currently used by BE-ST for training and upskilling of the construction industry. The aim is to continue training within the new centre which demonstrates retrofit design and skills put into practice. The project has also taken the opportunity to showcase various pilot products promoted and supported by BE-ST including CLT panels, cladding and insulation materials.

We would like to thank Women in Property and BE-ST for the opportunity to learn from this very exciting project and well done to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see the result!
