jmarchitects attend Mackintosh School of Architecture Degree Show 2025

The Mackintosh School of Architecture’s annual Degree Show remains a highlight of Scotland’s architectural calendar. This year’s exhibition featured an impressive breadth of student work, reflecting a range of themes and approaches. Across all year groups, students demonstrated strong design thinking, technical skill, and a thoughtful response to contemporary environmental and societal challenges. The quality of presentation — from models and drawings to digital visualisations — was both ambitious and inspiring.

jmarchitects remains strongly committed to fostering the growth of future architects with a long-standing partnerships across Scotland’s leading schools of architecture. Henry McKeown and Ian Alexander have been key members of the teaching team at the Mackintosh School for over 38 years, mentoring students who have since gone on to join our practice and beyond. Paul Smith has also supported the School as a guest tutor in Professional Studies and recently participated as a panellist for the Glasgow Institute of Architects Student Awards and upcoming Stage 5 Thesis Forum this academic year.

Our involvement extends to the University of Strathclyde, where Phil Zoechbauer and Gavin Murray tutor final-year students in Years 4 and 5 through their tutoring roles. We also maintain a strong connection with Robert Gordon University, where Yunming Thomson and Hazel Birse act as ad hoc tutors, offering academic input and mentorship to students as they develop their design thinking.

jmarchitects has made a proud architectural contribution to the Glasgow School of Art, completing the Reid Building — a significant addition to the GSA campus — along with the adjacent Assembly Building and Vic Bar in 2014, in collaboration with Steven Holl Architects.

The Glasgow School of Art Degree Show runs until 8th June, offering a valuable opportunity to engage with the creative energy and ideas shaping the future of architecture and the wider built environment.

Stages 3,4,5, show a concern for the environment and an important social agenda, projects tackle these important topics in a range of different ways, with some stimulating thought-provoking projects across all 3 stages.”
