Let’s welcome Jakob Tauman to jmarchitects!

We are pleased to share that jmarchitects has a new Senior Architect. Jakob brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our firm, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome him aboard.

We asked Jakob a few questions to get to know him better and this is what he said…

Why did you choose a career in the construction industry?

“I love designing, and architecture offers a wide range of opportunities for creative and technical involvement. From the broad strokes of a massing study to the careful selection of finishes, every stage of the process is deeply satisfying.

Some buildings are meant to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, while others are designed to stand out and make a statement—and both approaches have their own unique challenges and rewards.”

Who has been most influential on your work or work style?

“Arne Jacobsen's work has always fascinated me, especially the Town Hall in Aarhus, which made a significant impact on me. When I first saw it, I wasn’t a fan of the building, but over time, my perspective changed. I came to appreciate its design, and it eventually became one of my favorites.

 During my time as a student, I was also influenced by three architectural practices: BIG, JAJA Architects, and Cebra. Each of these practices shares a similar conceptual approach to architecture, emphasizing innovation, context, and a deep understanding of spatial relationships. They all played a key role in shaping my architectural thinking and design philosophy.”

Best advice you received?

“When I started my first role as a project lead, a former director told me, Don't become an island. Share and engage with the people around you—both internally and with external stakeholders.

Or "When you share a problem, it halves in size.”
