Handover is fast approaching for the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology!

We are delighted to announce that handover for the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) is due in mid-December. We are in no doubt that the completed building and landscaping will provide another fantastic facility at the heart of the University of Salford’s, Peel Park Campus.

GMIoT is a low carbon, A rated building and features a seeded, biodiverse green roof system with photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy, alongside a green living wall supported by rainwater harvesting. The air permeability exceeds the required target and works in tandem with the high thermal performance of the building.

The eye-catching shingle design used on the exterior represents pixelation as a means by which we could convey the technology aspect of the building and then use colour to reflect the seasonal changes of the adjacent Peel Park and the ever-changing cohort who will be use the building now and long into the future.

Inside you’ll find cutting-edge spaces to support learning, including flexible digital labs, a prototyping workshop and ICT studios, all within close proximity to leafy, green Peel Park. Colour and furniture have been used to further reflect and complement the seasonal colour changes used in the external concept.

The building is enhanced further by a landscape design which ties in with the main campus circulation materiality and creates a true sense of arrival whilst offering considered seating points as you approach the main entrance. Landscape to the West of the building is focused around a health and wellbeing seating and planting arrangement, designed in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society.

GMIoT is now part of the University of Salford’s Campus Connectivity Plan, which is bringing together industry, education and innovation through their ever-evolving developments on campus.
