jmarchitects Supports Girls in Energy Conference, Mentoring Future Women in STEM

Last Friday Part I Architectural Assistant from our Edinburgh studio, Maren Mowatt, had the opportunity to mentor young women with an interest in STEM careers at the annual Girls in Energy Conference.

The Girls in Energy conference is held annually in Aberdeen this year at P&J Live, the conference brings together over 240 pupils from 17 different schools across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire to brainstorm creative ideas to complex challenges.

The initiative is designed to encourage young women to engage with the key STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths. The end goal is to inspire them to consider a career in a STEM subject as all industries transitions towards net zero.

After completing the Girls in Energy course and work experience in 2019, Maren’s interest in the STEM subjects led her to pursue a career in the construction industry and attended Robert Gordon University to study architecture. Following her studies, she joined jmarchitects and is passionate about giving back to the GIE scheme by sharing her experience in the industry and mentoring a small team to brainstorm ideas and potential solutions.
