We are thrilled to announce that jmarchitects has won a highly coveted award and been commended for another at the prestigious Glasgow Institute of Architects Awards!
Our project St Andrew’s Drive Phases 2 & 3 received top honours, receiving the GIA Award in the ‘Large Residential’ category. Wallyford Learning Campus was also Commended in the ‘Education’ category, cementing these projects as benchmarks for excellence in educational and residential design.
We are also delighted to announce that our very own Thomas Whiting won the Alexander Thomson Scholarship. Submitted with Callum Symmons & The Glasgow cooperative.
Alexander “Greek” Thomson was a founding member and onetime President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects. Known for his idiosyncratic interpretation of Greek and Egyptian detailing his remaining built works stands as a testament Victorian confidence and ingenuity.
On his death in 1875 his contemporaries resolved to raise sufficient funds to erect or establish a suitable memorial to their late colleague. The result of which was the establishment of a Travelling Scholarship to be awarded every three years for the furtherance of the study of ancient classic architecture. The Glasgow Institute of Architects, as Trustees for the Alexander Thomson Scholarship have continued the historic tradition of awarding The Alexander Thomson Travelling Scholarship over 140 years after its inception.
St Andrew’s Drive, Phases 2 & 3
St Andrews Drive, Phases 2 & 3 are the concluding phases of a landscape-led approach to creating a development driven by the principles of NPF4. The projects’ initial strategy was to integrate a mixed tenure social and affordable housing development into the adjacent Pollokshields West conservation area. Preserving existing trees was a key objective whilst providing a series of urban villas set in a series of gardens that provide a holistic living environment for its residents. The project seeks to extend the sense of place of the neighbourhood into the new masterplan and knit the community together.
Wallyford Learning Campus
Wallyford Learning Campus, the first campus project to be delivered through the SFT’s LEIP programme is an innovative and inspiring campus building; one that is truly inclusive, intergenerational and responds to place, environment, community, health, well-being and educational agendas.
Home to Rosehill High School, a public Library, Community Centre, a school for learners with complex needs and adult day centre the campus includes sector leading internal and external vocational spaces with partnerships links to local industry, colleges and universities, helping to create pathways to employment and further/higher education, contributing to economic growth both within the region and across Scotland.
Winning these awards is a testament to the hard work, passion, and creativity of the entire jmarchitects team. These accolades underscore our commitment to creating spaces that enhance lives and shape communities for the better.
