Planning submitted for Kincardine and Lochgelly Community Health and Wellbeing Centres!

jmarchitects are excited to announce that planning applications have been submitted and validated by Fife Council on behalf of NHS Fife for two new Community Health and Wellbeing Centres located in Kincardine and Lochgelly.

Subject to Statutory and funding approvals, Kincardine’s health centre is planned to be located at the heart of the town, adjacent to Tulliallan Primary School and Tulliallan and Kincardine Church. The new building sits as a pavilion in the landscape and has the opportunity to act as a significant community orientated public building within an active parkland setting, forming a campus of buildings with the school and church.

Subject to Statutory and funding approvals, Lochgelly’s health centre is planned to be located within a residential area, adjacent to the Mossview Care Home, Lochgelly West Primary School and the Main Street. The new building sits within the centre of the site and the intention is to create a focal point and utilise landscaping, courtyards, and a proposed community garden to integrate the building into its residential surroundings.

The concept design solution for both projects is derived from a central courtyard garden which is located at the heart of the floor plan which will bring natural daylight, sunlight, natural ventilation, and landscaping into the core of the buildings. This provides a focus on wellbeing, enhancing the patient and visitors experience whilst also enhancing the daily experience of the administrative and medical staff that are working in the building.

Both buildings have been designed to be sustainable and utilise natural daylight and natural ventilation to improve health and wellbeing. Photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery in certain areas are also utilised to meet energy targets and minimise operational costs.

The project will be delivered for NHS Fife by hub East Central Scotland and subject to planning approval, work on the new developments is due to start on site mid-2023, with completion due in late 2024.
