Studio Visit to Easthouses Primary School!

 At the end of last week, members of both Glasgow and Edinburgh offices made their way to Easthouses for a visit to the new Easthouses Primary School – which is soon to be handed over to Midlothian Council.

It was great for those visiting to see the culmination of hard work by jmarchitects colleagues over the past few years. The redevelopment of this site now provides a new 459 pupil primary school, 80 place nursery and an ASN provision – delivered by Morrison Construction and Hub South East for Midlothian Council.

Colleagues enjoyed making their way through the different spaces of the school and understanding how these are intended to be used by pupils, staff and the community. From the lofty hellerup active stair to the ply-clad multipurpose hall to more intimate class spaces – colleagues were taken through the design intent of spaces by those involved in the project. The weather even afforded an external tour where jmarchitects colleagues took note of the subtle form of entrances and the semi-enclosed learning courtyard formed by the building. The superb views of the Pentland Hills were welcome on a blue-sky day.

The school is set to open the doors to new pupils this summer.
