We are delighted that Easthouses Primary School has been handed over to Midlothian Council!
Work has completed at Easthouses Primary School and the project handed over last week to Midlothian Council – delivered by Morrison Construction and Hub South East. A new 459 pupil primary school, 80 place nursery and ASN provision has been provided on the redeveloped site.
The school forms a semi-enclosed learning courtyard with a classroom wing over two levels and an ASN wing over one level. Envisaged as a series of light-weight forms set within a heavy masonry base, the architectural approach seeks to create a building that is both energy-efficient and born of its context: the environmental approach seeks to maximise solar gain whilst proving shaded and covered areas that are integral to the building whilst sculpted form seeks to draw on references to the surrounding semi-rural architecture of the area. From the upper storey, the openings frame beautiful views of the Pentland Hills.
The school is set to open the doors to new pupils this week.
