Situated on the historic Clydebank Canal front in the heart of the town centre, the 'Clydebank Activity Centre' will serve as a Community HUB and bicycle workshop, marking a significant milestone in the town's regeneration plan.
Promoting the use of sustainable transport and exercise is a fundamental aspect of the proposal. The Clydebank Activity Centre, particularly the Bike workshop, strategically positioned on the NCR 7, will foster connections locally and nationally with various groups and individuals.
The layout has been meticulously designed to accommodate the diverse range of activities the centre will offer. Moreover, the facility's space can be flexibly adapted with concealed furniture and movable partitions.
The linear footprint on the north frontage was a result of challenging site constraints but has amplified the building's engagement with the Canal edge and Scheduled Monument.
In order to enhance biodiversity, wildflower planting has been incorporated into the Southern edge of the site. The vibrant plant species will add a variety of colour to the surroundings and promote a positive impact on the well-being of building users and the wider public who frequent the Square.
The division of spaces creates a covered exterior area and allows the two sections to function independently, providing protected access to the facility and enabling activities to be conducted outdoors under cover. Additionally, an overhanging roof connects the two elements, creating a seamless and unified structure.
The approval of Planning Permission for the Clydebank Activity Centre marks a significant step forward for the town's regeneration plan. The centre’s emphasis on promoting sustainable transport, fostering community connections, and accommodating diverse activities reflects a thoughtful and inclusive approach to the regeneration development. With its strategic location, flexible design, and focus on enhancing biodiversity, we hope that the Clydebank Activity Centre will become a vibrant and integral part of the town centre, benefiting both its users and the wider public.
