Church Wharf granted planning approval!

jmarchitects are delighted to share that Bolton Council has granted planning approval for Watson Homes’ £100m mixed-use development in Bolton Town Centre.

The Church Wharf scheme will transform a long-vacant brownfield site into a vibrant new destination, with the River Croal flowing through the heart of the landscape design to create a distinctive setting. The proposals include over 400 new homes, alongside a hotel, cafés, restaurants, bars and commercial spaces — all supported by a thoughtfully designed public realm that encourages community life and activity.

The masterplan has been carefully designed to reconnect the site with Bolton Town Centre, strengthening links with surrounding neighbourhoods and forging a new sense of place at the heart of the town.

Church Wharf represents a landmark regeneration project that will not only revitalise this underused site but also bring lasting benefits for the wider community, promoting quality and economic growth while setting the stage for future development.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
