A lively day of debate at the Healthy and Sustainable Housing for the Ageing Population Summit.

Our Project Director Yunming Thomson joined Local councils, housing associations, funders, developers, architects, healthcare professionals and Stirling University researchers to discuss what we could be doing to more build lifetime supportive homes.

The summit highlighted that there is a pressing need for Scotland to futureproof our housing stock to as we see the population declining and our aging population growing. With the DDA now being 30 years old, and the outcomes of the review of the Housing for Varying Needs delayed, the focus on fire safety and carbon reduction, these factors have shifted the focus away from providing age, faith and culturally appropriate housing.

The day saw presentations, provocative panel questions and round table debates that asked what more could be done to educate the public, policy makers and funders that providing supportive homes can bring lifetime benefits to communities.
