This festive season we’re celebrating the reopening of the Grade II listed Hat & Feathers in Clerkenwell — closed since 2011 for construction of the surrounding new‑build hotel, it is now reborn as part of Hotel Indigo Clerkenwell. For our London team, this was more than restoring a pub; it was about honouring heritage while creating spaces for the future.

jmarchitects was appointed to deliver the final phases of the new-build hotel alongside the finished refurbishment of the Hat & Feathers itself. The refurbishment preserves key early‑1900s features while introducing a modernised back‑of‑house layout and two new naturally lit meeting rooms designed to complement the building’s heritage. We also oversaw the careful restoration of the façade, including the conservation and rehanging of historic signage, reinstating the pub’s civic presence.

The 143‑room hotel wraps around the pub, with interiors inspired by Clerkenwell’s craft legacy — expressed through bespoke joinery, tailored headboards, and curated finishes. Working with Omenport Development and contractor Reach CM, we are completing two previously unfinished hotel floors, nine bespoke suites, roof terraces with skyline views, and the detailing and planting in the eight storey lightwell within the building.
