Alton Road Shortlisted for Inside Housing Awards 2026

jmarchitects' Alton Road development in Roehampton has been shortlisted in the Best Later Living Development category at the Inside Housing Awards 2026. The scheme has been recognised for its innovative approach to later living, creating a connected, landscape-led community that promotes independence, wellbeing and inclusion.

Alton Road reimagines extra care housing as a residential community shaped by landscape, connection and independence. Delivering 95 new homes, the development combines affordable specialist extra care accommodation with shared ownership housing, creating a neighbourhood that supports residents at different stages of later life while encouraging interaction across the wider community.

Set on the edge of Richmond Park and the Alton Estate Conservation Area, the scheme replaced an outdated care facility with a landscape-led approach that prioritises accessibility, dignity and quality of life. The scheme was competed in 2025 for Southern Housing.

Inside Housing is the UK’s leading housing industry publication covering all aspects and sectors within residential development, housing associations, local authorities, developers, architects and contractors. Their annual awards are judged by senior professionals from housing associations, local authorities, developers and related organisations.

Previous winners of Inside Housing Awards include Urban Splash for Park Hill in Sheffield, Pollard Thomas Edwards for New Ground Co-Housing and Mae Architects for Agar Grove Phase 1b

The winners will be announced on at the awards ceremony on November 24th at the InterContinental O2, London.

“Published in “A London Renaissance” by the NLA in 2019, and winner of the NFA Housing Award for the ‘Best Large Scheme in Planning 2019’, Alton Road has now completed and looks like the building the team had hoped it would be. Shortlisting for the Inside Housing Award is great news and we are looking forward to the awards ceremony in November”
