Last week our Edinburgh studio paid a visit to the newly completed Wallyford Primary School in East Lothian. Associate Graham Miller and Architect Lisa Rubython guided us around the building which includes a community library and a 120/120 nursery and has been designed to expand with the growing community of Wallyford over the coming years. The 4 stream school currently has a capacity of 826 but will eventually accommodate 1200 pupils making it one of the largest primary schools in the UK.
The admin, library, dining and sports facilities are positioned to the north of the site linked by an internal street. The teaching accommodation is located to the south of this street and is broken down into three classroom clusters with direct access to external courtyards.
We often arrange studio visits to live or completed projects and see these events as a chance to celebrate and review our work and to share what we have learned with others in the studio.
