We are thrilled to share the exciting news that several of jmarchitects’ projects have been selected as finalists at this year’s prestigious Scottish Design Awards!

Let’s delve into the categories where we have earned a spot on the shortlist:

St Andrew’s Drive, Phases 2 & 3 – Residential: St Andrew’s Drive Phases 2 & 3 provides 120 new homes for our Client, Southside Housing Association, replacing a 6 storey 1960’s deck access slab block. The site sits on the edge of the historic Pollokshields area of Glasgow which is predominantly comprised of large sandstone villas set on treelined streets. A range of flats and maisonettes provide homes for individuals, couples, and families in a mix of 1-, 2- & 3-bedroom apartments, 2-bedroom wheelchair accessible apartments and 3- & 4-bedroom maisonette homes.

Wallyford Learning Campus – Education Building or Project: A place for the community to meet and learn together, Wallyford Learning Campus is a state-of-the-art community building that is truly inclusive, intergenerational and responds to environmental and educational agendas.

Born out of the requirement for a new high school, the Campus is home to Rosehill High School as well as a dedicated science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM) centre, a severe and complex needs school, hydrotherapy pool and specialist provision community hub for adults with complex needs.

Wallyford Community Centre and Library were also rehomed within the building to upgrade facilities and condense the local authority’s estate into one efficient building that is accessible, active, and open all year round. Inclusion of a café, sports facilities and a ‘Tots and Teens Creche’; the building provides activities and services for the entire family and enables parents to engage with employability and up-skilling courses.

Newcraighall East – Masterplanning: Submitted by Landscape Architect, HarrisonStevens, the goal of the development is to create a new vibrant residential scheme for Newcraighall, providing high quality, mixed tenure housing and a new urban park which will see the reinvigoration of this site in East Edinburgh. The new Linear Park is designed with residents at the forefront, with the aim to enhance the biodiversity of the area, increase the variety of park environments in the neighbourhood and help to promote physical active travel for all abilities.

Client of the Year Award – East Lothian Council: In a joint submission with Hub South East Scotland, jmarchitects are delighted that our client for Wallyford Learning Campus, East Lothian Council, have been selected as a finalist.

East Lothian Council’s approach to the briefing, design, construction, handover, and operation of Wallyford Learning Campus, characterises them as the perfect Client. Their unwavering commitment to the education, health and wellbeing of the pupils, teachers and community of Wallyford and the wider East Lothian region has been truly awe inspiring. Their relentless drive to create an outstanding building; one which delivers a truly exceptional education and community environment generated an enthusiasm, commitment, and passion for the project throughout the project team of a level which we had not experienced on any previous project.

We can think of no Client body more deserving of the accolade as Client of the Year.

jmarchitects – Architectural Practice of the Year: jmarchitects were selected as Architectural Practice of the Year at the 2023 Scottish Design Awards and we are absolutely over the moon to have been selected as a finalist at the 2024 awards. Being shortlisted is a humbling recognition of the collective efforts of our team. It reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional projects, and exceeding client expectations.

“jmarchitects are thrilled and delighted to be shortlisted within 5 categories, it’s also great to see our client East Lothian Council shortlisted for Client of the Year.

This is a real testament to the hard work and commitment shown by all of our staff and partners on these projects and shows the real breadth of what jmarchitects can offer”.
