Completion of the land deal paves the way for the next steps following planning approval for the £65m regeneration of Union Mill, Wolverhampton. jmarchitects are excited to progress to the next stage of this transformative regeneration scheme of 366 new homes and commercial space located in the heart of Wolverhampton’s historic Canalside Quarter.
The proposal will create a tight knit, community focused development; informed by its historical context and canalside frontage. A distinct, yet sensitive design approach strengthens the industrial heritage that defines the area and brings activity back to the waterside. The scheme involves the restoration of listed buildings along with a number of new build elements. The new build elements draw inspiration from the surrounding industrial heritage, with a material palette in keeping with the local vernacular.
Distinctive public realm spaces are created including a new promenade running along the canal; reconnecting the site back to the wider area and fostering canalside activity. The proposal will transform this brownfield site into a vibrant canalside neighbourhood. It will provide the city with high quality, sustainable urban living which takes full advantage of the fantastic waterways.
