Paul Smith of jmarchitects Glasgow, was warmly invited to the Stage 5 Industry event, ‘Exploring Territories’, at the Mackintosh School of Architecture Final Year Degree Show.
The theme ‘The Ethical City’ formed the basis of the Stage 5 Final Design Thesis. Based on 3 territories in Brussels, (Historical, Modern, and Industry). The event was the basis of an informal exchange to allow students to share their work and ideas with the industry guests, and in turn allowed the guests to absorb and respond with questions, feedback and dialogue.
The students, working tirelessly on in the final push towards their post-graduate year, investigated multiple agendas including adaptive re-use, masterplanning, urban growing and sustainable agendas.
It is hoped that this informal dialogue will generate ideas for future teaching around the ethical debate in the School.
“As a past alumni of the school, it was an exciting opportunity to return to ‘the Mack, and to see the return of the Degree Show, meet the students and provide some constructive comment on the amazing range of work, drawings and models on show.”
