Lowe House Health Centre is the latest flagship development to be procured through Halton and St Helens, Knowsley and Warrington LIFT. The three and four storey, 4800sqm scheme accommodates four local doctors’ surgeries and a range of PCT services under one roof.

Before starting the detailed design for the health centre, we conducted a masterplan study of the wider urban area for the Local Authority, at our client’s request. The output masterplan for Duke Street was then adopted by the Local Authority for future development in the area.

We then followed our own masterplan in designing the health centre and residential development. The scheme’s design is central to the regeneration of this area of St Helens and formed part of a mixed use planning application for a larger site, incorporating a residential development of 54 apartments and mixed retail and residential units fronting the street.

The Challenge

The Lowe House Health Centre brings much needed primary care to this location of St Helens and forms an integral part of the Duke Street regeneration masterplan.

The Solution

The new facility has been planned in close liaison with PCT Clinical Staff and GP Practices with an active Community Involvement Group also running in parallel to the development. As part of the masterplan exercise local people & businesses were canvassed for their views on the new facility.

The Outcome

The primary care health centre brings together four individual GP practices with community services and an adjacent residential development. The striking design incorporates a dramatic four storey ‘funnel’ at its entrance leading the community to it from a new public space in this NW quarter of St Helens.
