The building is essentially formed of two blocks; a teaching block, and a sports block, which meet at the eastern side to create a shared frontage and external public plaza. The proposed design puts the pupil and their learning opportunities at the centre of the school through the creation of a clear, efficient and flexible solution to the Participant’s Brief. These principles are manifest through the creation of the shared, social spaces at the core of the building which offer a highly functional and exciting environment for the pupils, staff and community.

The Challenge
The project proposed to bring together the existing High School and Lossiemouth Community Centre in a single building located to the south of the existing facilities. The brief aspired to a building which was to act as a school and community hub which is flexible with shared facilities operating all year round.
The Solution
The new building consists of two blocks which meet to provide a modern environment for formal and informal learning for pupils and members of the community alike. Teaching plazas and study spaces surround the central atrium flooding them with natural light, whilst classrooms are located around the perimeter of the plan benefiting from natural ventilation and views out through large format windows.
The Outcome
The new building consists of two blocks which meet to provide a modern environment for formal and informal learning for pupils and members of the community alike. Teaching plazas and study spaces surround the central atrium flooding them with natural light, whilst classrooms are located around the perimeter of the plan benefiting from natural ventilation and views out through large format windows.
