The new £37m Garnock Community Campus, designed by jmarchitects and delivered by Kier Construction for North Ayrshire Council as part of the Hub South West programme, was officially opened on Monday at a ceremony led by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP.
Brian Thomson, Henry McKeown and Phil Zoechbauer from jmarchitects attended the ceremony and were given a tour of the school by pupils to see how the staff and pupils had made the campus their own, and how the wide variety of spaces are being used as part of a new and flexible approach to educational provision with ‘seeing learning happening’ as a core concept.
The campus provides a new learning environment for 1200 secondary school pupils, 260 primary school pupils and 45 nursery pupils as well as community facilities such as a fitness suite, 25m pool and training pool. The Campus replaces the existing Garnock Academy, Glengarnock Primary School and Kilbirnie Community Pool.
