jmarchitects are excited to announce that planning permission has been submitted to Calderdale Council on behalf of Placefirst for a new nine storey residential building along Cow Green in Halifax.

The proposal will be built on the site of a former multi storey carpark and will provide 122 new one and two-bedroom BTR apartments in Halifax. The site offers a prime central location in close proximity to areas of employment and transport hubs, creating an attractive destination for people seeking vibrant Town Centre living.

A sensitive approach to the proposed building design is to be sought by clearly expressing a contemporary architectural language inspired from the local historical context and surrounding materiality. The fenestration detailing highlights a familiar style and rhythm identifiable in nearby existing buildings maintaining the legibility of the street scene and providing a high-quality addition to Halifax Town Centre.

The development also marks Placefirst’s most sustainable project to date and includes photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, wastewater heat recovery and mechanical ventilation also with heat recovery, lowering energy bills for residents.

Work on the new development is due to start on site in 2023, with completion due in 2025 following planning approval.

James Litherland, Planning and Development Manager at Placefirst commented: “We are excited to submit our plans to regenerate this area in the centre of Halifax with our most sustainable scheme to date. We have worked closely with the Combined Authority and Calderdale Council to ensure the scheme delivers the shared objectives of all partners and sets the standard for high quality build-to-rent in Halifax.”
