The replacement for Castlebrae High School was given unanimous planning approval by the City of Edinburgh Council recently. The new building provides a warm, welcoming and inclusive School for up to 700 pupils in the heart of Craigmillar town centre, and provides spaces to support a variety of learning methods, from small breakout spaces and traditional classrooms to large collaborative learning plazas.
The new building will have a prominent frontage onto Niddrie Mains Road which will foster a sense of pride in the new facilities, something that is lacking in the current building which is tucked away out of sight on the edge of the community. In addition to the main works, an expansion strategy has been considered to allow the building to expand as and when the School roll requires with minimal impact on the operation of the School.
The project is due to start on site in late 2019 with an opening date scheduled for August 2021.
