Albus, Bridgeton

This 20,000sqft speculative office development in Bridgeton has developed from an urban response to London Road and an aspiration to maximise the impact of the proposal on the site. Internally, a very simple palette and an exposed servicing aesthetic fully embraces the idea of space that users can adapt.




Clyde Gateway



The three-storey proposal has evolved from a desire to provide a flexible, contemporary workspace for a variety of tenants, incorporating ideas from the “white collar factory” workspace model..

The design of a double height entrance space and an open stair stems from the desire to provide users with a generous and open arrival space, with a feature made of the main stair. The proposal comprises of a very simple palette of quality and robust materials.

The solidity of the precast concrete panel façade is punctured with full height sliding doors that offer a mostly naturally ventilated building. Timber fins soften the corners and introduce a textural contrast to the white concrete. An external stair forms the corner of the building on Brook Street, and the structure of the stair is lightly veiled by a metal mesh cladding.

The scheme is named after the Latin for white in recognition of its concrete finish.

The Challenge

The proposal for a three storey speculative office in Bridgeton for Clyde Gateway has evolved from a desire to provide a flexible, contemporary workspace for a variety of tenants.

The Solution

The target market is currently most active at the more cost effective end of the spectrum, which has directed our approach in the size and type of space offered. An important area of public realm is created to the front of the development, which sets up a positive entrance and arrival experience.

The Outcome

Since the project completion the spaces within the building have been successfully let to businesses largely within the creative industries. Part of the attraction is that the simple robust interiors create an interesting backdrop for individual companies to express their design approach and identity within their own workspace. The project has been successful in supporting the urban transformation of the Bridgeton Cross area and is importantly adding to the economic diversity of the neighbourhood.
