The existing building at Llanberis was never intended for its present use, it is inflexible, has outdated services and was becoming increasingly expensive to run. Our brief was to refurbish and refresh the building into a fit-for-purpose visitor attraction, café, and community facility.

Our proposals will reduce the footprint of the existing building to create more manageable and flexible spaces to suit their current function. The use of natural materials and brightly coloured cladding panels will refresh the building frontage and create a warm and inviting prospect for visitors to the centre. The interior spaces will be opened up to create new view vistas through the building out to the surrounding mountain scenery. By cutting the building back, the existing roof can be retained to create external covered canopies which can be used as shelter during local external events such as the Snowdonia Marathon which starts in Llanberis.

Internally, double height spaces and enhanced areas of glazing will create bright, generous spaces with strong visual connections to the vast, spectacular scenery surrounding them improving the visitor experience and enhancing an essential anchor for tourism in and around Llanberis.
