Lochside Academy Reaches Handover

jmarchitects have recently completed a new £46 million Academy for Aberdeen City Council, replacing two aging schools with a new building for communities in the south of the city.

Lochside Academy, which replaced Torry and Kincorth Academies, was handed over to Aberdeen City Council by Balfour Beatty and hub North Scotland following a two-year construction programme.  The school, which can accommodate 1350 pupils and is now the largest in the city, has three floors of teaching accommodation including a rooftop Art Studio with a roof terrace and views towards Deeside, a Sports Block with 25m swimming pool and a practical learning block with state of the art Craft and Design Workshops. The first pupils will start at the school in August following fit-out works by the Council over the next eight weeks.

This is the third School that jmarchitects have completed for Aberdeen City Council, following on from Orchard Brae School for children with severe and complex needs, and Brimmond School which was completed in 2015.
