Planning Submitted for Llanberis 'Electric Mountain' Visitor centre

JM Architects have submitted proposals for the refurbishment of a well-loved visitor attraction in North Wales; the Electric Mountain Tour Hydro-Electric Plant.

The current building was never intended for its present use, it is inflexible, has outdated services and is becoming increasingly expensive to run. The proposed scope of work is to refurbish and refresh the building into a fit-for-purpose visitor attraction, café, and community facility.

The proposals reduce the footprint of the existing building to create more manageable and flexible spaces to suit current requirements. Using a combination of new and natural materials it is proposed to create eye-catching elevations to address the site frontage and draw people inside. The interior spaces will be opened up to create new view vistas through the building out to the surrounding mountain scenery. By cutting the building back, the existing roof can be retained to create external covered canopies which can be used as shelter during local external events such as the Snowdonia Marathon which starts in Llanberis.
