GIA Commendations for Garnock Community Campus and Kilpatrick School

The Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) has commended jmarchitects' Garnock Community Campus and Kilpatrick School at this year's GIA Annual Members Dinner. The ceremony took place on Friday 10th November at the Oran Mor Performing Arts Centre in Glasgow.

The Judges said that Garnock Community Campus was “A bold and confident architectural composition with a very clear plan. The main entrance was impressive and the main public spaces flowed together successfully, the teaching spaces well considered and the confident detailing and control of the internal exposed services aesthetic was impressive. This building provides a bold and inspirational place to learn.”

Whereas Kilpatrick was described as follows: “The building’s form and shape sits comfortably in the landscape and scales and colours bed well with the existing school buildings and mature trees that surround the new building leading the visitor naturally toward the main entrance. A simple palate of materials and colours with controlled zings of colour runs throughout the building.  This is a modest building that is beautifully and simply detailed both externally and internally, and it is evident that the school has been warmly received by the community, staff and pupils.”

Garnock Community Campus includes a Secondary School, Primary School as well as Community and Sports Facilities was officially opened in June by Scottish Education Secretary John Swinney. You can read more about the project here.
