Celebrating 10 years of the Edinburgh Urban Design Panel
2019 marks 10 years since the establishment of the Edinburgh Urban Design Panel.
To mark the occasion The City of Edinburgh Council organised a workshop day for parties involved with the panel to come together and discuss how it has added value to the development process in the city. jmarchitects were asked to speak about the impact of the design review process on three of our major education projects in Edinburgh since the establishment of the panel in 2009.
Henry McKeown, Claire Davie and Stuart Meadows spoke about the real benefits of an objective, independent and expert review process at the early stages of a project. Presentations were also made by the University of Edinburgh, EMA Architects, The Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and West Dunbartonshire and Architecture & Design Scotland.
The Panel was established by the City of Edinburgh Council and gives design advice to the teams behind some of the city's largest and most significant development projects. Through this collaborative process the EUDP aims to raise the quality of new buildings, streets and spaces in Edinburgh. Panel members are drawn from a range of organisations with particular expertise to offer to the design review process.
