Our 20|60 Anniversary Celebrations

Our 20|60 Anniversary Celebrations

“Planners and architects, as the chief designers of our physical environment, should never forget that the most important thing about a city or town is the people.” - Percy Johnson-Marshall, Rebuilding Cities from Medieval to Modern Times

This year we are honoured to be celebrating not one, but two anniversaries’ at jmarchitects; Percy Johnson-Marshall and Partners, our original practice, was established 60 years ago and our current practice jmarchitects was established 20 years ago.

Johnson-Marshall’s private practice (PJMP) was formed in 1962 from the planning section of Robert Matthew’s Edinburgh office. During the 1960s and 1970s, it undertook commissions around the globe, while in Scotland its work included the Lothian Regional Plan, the Central Borders Plan, and the Grangemouth/Falkirk Plan. Johnson- Marshall was also particularly active in Edinburgh. jmarchitects (rebranded from PJMP in 2002) builds upon this heritage and works across a number of sectors across the UK, our work is founded on the principles highlighted by our original founder “the most important thing about a city or town is the people”.

To celebrate, we are delighted to announce that we will be reflecting on these milestones, sharing our history and our future projects with the 20|60 Exhibition! The exhibition launches this Thursday evening and will spend a period of time in our Edinburgh studio before moving to our London studio in September and our Manchester studio in October. We are looking forward to marking these significant milestones with you and will continue to update you all as the celebrations tour the country!
